What we collect
ParkAtlas stores your profile (name, email, optional photo and phone), sign-in details, and the park visits you log — park, trail, date, distance, and any photo you attach — so the app can show your history and progress.
If you grant location access, we read your current position on-device to suggest nearby parks. Location is not stored or sent to our servers.
If you choose to sync contacts, phone numbers and emails are hashed on-device and matched against ParkAtlas accounts to find friends. Raw contact data is not uploaded.
If you link Strava, we fetch your hiking, walking, and trail-running activities from Strava to match them to parks. We do not post to Strava.
How we use data
Your data powers core features: visit history, stats and ranks, the friends feed, High-Fives, and share cards. We do not sell personal information and do not show ads.
Where data is stored
Guest visits are stored only on your device. When you sign in with Apple, Google, or email, your profile and visits are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore and Storage) so they sync across devices and can appear to friends you've connected with. Data is stored in the United States.
Your choices
You can use ParkAtlas without an account. You can sign out, disable biometric unlock, revoke location or contacts permissions in iOS Settings, and unlink Strava at any time. Delete Account in Settings permanently removes your account and all associated data from our servers and this device.
Children
ParkAtlas is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
